Offshore & Mooring

Permanent moorings, hawsers and pendants under continuous load.

Offshore mooring is where rope stops being a consumable and becomes infrastructure. Lines stay loaded for years, inspected on schedule, retired against documented criteria. Year five matters, not day one.

What actually governs the spec

Creep and cyclic fatigue under sustained tension. Standard HMPE elongates measurably over years at high load. Specify a creep-resistant grade or fail slowly.

The problems worth solving

01

Creep over a multi-year service life

SK78 HMPE creeps under permanent load, faster as temperature climbs. SK99 cuts that rate by roughly an order of magnitude. That is the decision here.

02

Snap-back energy and crew safety

A parting nylon hawser releases enormous stored energy. HMPE stores a fraction of it at equal strength. Fleets switch on safety grounds alone.

03

Documentation an auditor will accept

MEG4-aligned systems need certificates, retirement criteria and inspection history. Lines we supply for this service are serialised, length-marked, and have a retained test sample.

Typical design factor

Per OCIMF MEG4 and the operator's mooring analysis — commonly 2:1 to 3:1 on MBL for ship mooring

A starting point, not a specification. The governing standard, the consequence of failure and the inspection regime all move this number.
