12-Strand Single Braid
12 strands, braided in pairs
Torque-free and hand-spliceable in the field with nothing but a fid. The highest strength-to-weight of any spliceable construction.

Double Braid
Braided core inside a braided cover
Core and cover each carry about half the load, and the cover takes all the wear. Firm, round, and the most forgiving construction to splice well.

Parallel Core
Unidirectional core in a braided cover
Kernmantle
Parallel or twisted core in a tight sheath
A protected core inside a tight sheath engineered for descender grip and sharp-edge abrasion. Knotted, not spliced. Built to life-safety standards, not industrial ones.

3-Strand Twisted
Three twisted strands
The oldest construction still in production, and still correct for anchor rodes: it stretches, splices trivially, grips a windlass gypsy, and is cheap.

Splice efficiency assumes a correctly made splice with the full specified bury length. A short bury, a mismatched fid size or a splice made in a coated rope without preparation will all fall well below these figures.
